Homework
Homework in kindergarten is designed to support material already learned in class.  Children should work on their homework under the supervision of an adult.  Homework is sent home in the "Homework Folder" on Fridays and should be returned in the folder on (or before) Wednesdays of the following week.  Once I have checked the work and returned it, please empty the old papers out of the folder.

Things to keep in mind while doing homework:
1. Your child should be using a pencil for writing their name and for tracing and writing letters, words and numbers. *** Letters and numbers need to be formed correctly.  By this I mean that your child should be  "pulling down" while making a lower case "t" and then crossing it from left to right.  Do NOT drag the pencil upwards.  If your child forms an incorrect letter stroke now, it will be very hard to correct in 2nd grade when learning cursive!  Just follow the arrows on the handwriting homework sheets.
2. Your child should be holding the pencil 'correctly.'  (A three point grasp= pointer finder on top with middle finger underneath.  Thumb to the side.)
3. Your child should be writing their name with a capital letter for the first letter and then lower case letters for the rest.  If they were taught using all capital letters, this may take some time to correct this habbit.  i.e Jason (instead of JASON)
4. Math Home Links:   Some of these activites have spaces on them to write on and return to me and some do not.  Have fun with them.  All of these concepts are introduced in class during the week.  If your child was absent, be patient and review the basic concept with your child first before expecting the correct answer(s).
5. Sight word flash cards that you make:  These can be kept at home.  Practice the words for a short time every night.  Not all of them need to be mastered, only introduced.  Keep this fun, too!
